Through creative storytelling, in-depth research, and interviews, Axis Mundi Media creates and distributes media resources that educate clergy, journalists, elected officials, professors, teachers, and the lay public about the ways religious nationalism, authoritarian movements, and extremist communities threaten democracy. Our goal is to educate in order to activate by bringing the ivory tower to the grassroots.

In Latin, axis mundi refers to a line through the center of the earth connecting to its surface. We cover the stories at the center of our world so we can all imagine a different – and better – one.


Axis Mundi was created by Dr. Bradley Onishi, co-host of the Straight White American Jesus (SWAJ) podcast. Since 2018, SWAJ has been downloaded six million times and been assigned in dozens of universities across the world. It regularly appears on the Apple Politics charts ahead of shows from the New York Times, Vox, and Slate, and other national outlets. SWAJ docuseries, such as Charismatic Revival Fury and Monster in the Mirror, have been covered by NPR, the New York Times, and Yahoo News, and nominated for public scholarship awards.
